What is K-Motion and 4D Motion?

Overview

K-Motion and 4D Motion are biofeedback devices that directly measure the kinematic sequencing of a hitter’s movement. What this means is that these devices measure the speed, acceleration, deceleration, and direction of various body parts throughout a hitter’s swing and compares the movement of a body part in relation to another.

This data is then used to drive training programs that aim to correct movement inefficiencies and craft the most efficient swing for a player.

Measurement/Applications

Your movement is directly measured in both pieces of tech using an inertial measurement sensor system, which means that sensors track your body and collect readings as you go through your load, swing, and follow-through.

The sensors collect data 200 times per second and results are then portrayed in the form of graphs and 3D animations of your swing, with both pieces of tech providing immediate feedback that can be viewed on any device.

Data from these technologies can be paired with High-Speed video to fully break down the quantitative and visual components of a swing.

The immediate feedback shows what, if any, mechanical adjustments need to be made and can help increase the efficiency of an adjustment.

K-Motion

K-Motion provides data that tracks movement speed, and time between the firing of different sections of the swing from the legs, to the torso and arms to the hands, which are vital to analyzing the efficiency of the swing. The visuals and graphs that K-Motion displays are very user-friendly and easy to incorporate into any training plan.

4D Motion

While K-Motion is easy to understand, 4D Motion goes deeper into the analytics and biomechanics to truly understand every working part of a swing.

They also offer higher-priced modules for those who are looking for an even more advanced level of insight into biofeedback training, kinematic sequence analysis, functional swing plane, bat path analysis, and much more.

4D motion has the ability to create a 3D animation of each swing and coaches can manipulate these visuals and other graphs to aid in real-time instruction.

Summary

K-Motion and 4D Motion are useful tools in measuring swing sequencing and mechanics, and this knowledge can be used to identify movement inefficiencies and drive training programs. Objective measurements of movement mechanics can help craft the most effective swing for hitters.
